PET
GONE WILD ON THE CARPET?
PET ODORS?
Urine
Soiling
Pet urine can cause damage to your floors and
fabrics. It can also create an unhealthy indoor environment. Some
technical tips on urine: When urine is first excreted, it is on the acid
side of the
pH scale and very easily removed. Within hours of being
exposed to oxygen it turns to an alkaline
pH. When this happens it will
continue to increase in alkalinity to the point of becoming practically
ammonia. This explains the ammonia like odor. At this stage it
dramatically affects the dye
structure of the carpet - causing permanent
staining. Even if the soluble deposits are removed, the damage to the
dye structure could already be done. **This
means that no one can guarantee complete removal
of all urine spots.
Please consult with your technician if you have questionable urine spots
on your carpet.
To prevent
permanent staining in the future clean urine spots immediately by
blotting with a white
terry cloth towel or plain white paper towels
until no moisture is transferred.
To clean
the urine spot: Mix 1 part white vinegar to 2 parts water and clean with
a white terry cloth. Once you have "flushed" as much of the
urine out as possible, blot with dry cloths until dry to the touch. *If
you have a small extraction machine, it would be ideal to use it. Flush
with fresh water
until spot is removed. *DO
NOT USE OVER THE COUNTER SPOT REMOVERS, EXTRACTION DETERGENT, OR
ALL-PURPOSE CLEANERS ON URINE! YOU MAY SET THE SPOT PERMANENTLY! IF YOU
HAVE TROUBLE REMOVING IT, CALL US.
NOTE:
Cleaning existing urine spots WILL NOT remove any associated odor. In
fact, could INCREASE the odor in the air space for a temporary period of
time. FOR PET ODOR REMOVAL SERVICES, PLEASE CONSULT your technician for
your best option.
GUARANTEED
PET ODOR REMOVAL?
Yes we are the
only company in the valley that guarantees it’s odor control services.
We
offer two options:
Major
Odor Control Treatment - 100% Guaranteed
This is a very in-depth and thorough process. First,
a pre-inspection will be conducted with an ultra-violet light. Second,
the carpet will be disengaged and the affected pad will be removed.
Third,
an anti-microbial will be applied to the back of the carpet and
to the sub-floor. Fourth, a sealant
barrier will be applied to the
sub-floor and new pad will be installed. When this is complete we will
then re-install the carpet. As the last step, we will thoroughly clean
and restore the carpeted areas.
Minor
Odor Control Treatment
Though not guaranteed, This is a more cost-effective
option. It is not guaranteed to eliminate the
entire odor problem, due
to the amount of materials involved. For example: the carpet, pad, and
the sub-floor. However, it is effective in easing the odor, and in many
cases eliminating the odor
altogether. First, a pre-inspection will be
conducted with an ultra-violet light. Mineral deposits and alkaline
salts in the urine will become florescent under the ultra-violet light.
Second, under the ultra-violet light we will strategically flood those
affected areas with an enzyme. The enzyme will
digest the bacteria in
the urine that causes the odor. We will then wait 24 hrs, and return on
a
second visit. On the second visit, the carpet will be thoroughly
cleaned.
Urine
Control
We have 2
urine odor treatments available:
1.
Minor Odor Treatment — We
will saturate affected areas with an enzyme. It usually helps
the odor and is a good alternative to a costly Major Odor
Treatment. This treatment is not guaranteed.
2.
Major Odor Treatment — This
treatment is guaranteed to remove the odor. The process involves
pulling up the carpet in the affected area, cleaning the
backing, replacing the padding, treating the subfloor and the
backing of the carpet, and treating the pile of carpet.
Sisal
and Sea Grass
Sisal and Sea Grass are two of
the many names associated with floor coverings made with plant material.
Ranging from mats to wall to wall, some with backings, some not, this
type of material is in a very raw state. Therefore, an understanding of
how they react to every day soiling and how they respond to cleaning is
very helpful.
One of the unique
characteristics of this type of floorcovering material is the tendency
to develop mysterious dark spots when cleaned, regardless of the method
used. Generally bringing a “worn” Sisal back to it's original state
is a lost cause. Also, Sisal stains very easily. One of the best things
to do is have it protected with a solvent based fabric protector to
resist against water spots that result from any type of spillage. In
addition to developing dark spots, Sisal may also "lighten"
when cleaned.
The best way to clean plant
material is with a low moisture approach. This can be done with a
dry-cleaning system or a water extraction system as long as the water
pressure is regulated well. The bottom line is that these products are
not very spillage, traffic or cleaning friendly. However, you can't beat
the look.
Place this type of
floorcovering in a non-traffic, non-spillage area to prevent over use.
Have a light, maintenance cleaning done about once a year to remove
surface soils, pollen, asphalt, exhaust and other foreign matter that
finds its way into our homes.
A final note about Sisal is
that some wool carpets come in a “Sisal style.” These products are
made to look like sisal, but are actually an entirely different
material.
